THE PARR FAMILY

The story starts with an interesting e-mail sent from a lady called Sheila
to former owner, David Thorley, after a family reunion of the Parr family at the Lord Nelson
in September 2006
Their ancestors were licensees of the Nelson from 1879 to 1896.

Eunice has asked me to send you a write up from the reunion that we held
at the Lord Nelson on 10th Sept this year. She apologises that she's left
it so long, but has been really busy since returning home, hence my offer to
send something.

THE GARNER FAMILY

The story starts with the e-mail below.
Anyone who has any information let David know so he can forward it to Vicki.

Subject: Was this hotel called the Nelson Inn back in 1851 & 1861?

Sure do hope so. I live in Geelong, Victoria, Australia and have been
researching my family tree for many years.
I recently found on two census's that
John Garner and family resided at the Nelson Inn in Burnham Thorpe.

The photos on your webpage are just wonderful.

Would be grateful for any information you may be able to share with me

Vicki Smith

Peter and Sylvia Fairburn who visited the pub recently having last been here when Les Winter was Landlord.
The attached photo shows them buying copies of Les’s books on Nelson nearly 20 years ago!

I just wanted to thank you for putting the pamphlet about All Saints
Church online.

I visited Burnham Thorpe last August and was disappointed to
find the church locked and not to be able to see inside, so it was great to
find your website.

My great great grandparents, Francis TAYLOR and Rebecca OUGHTON, were
married there on 26 February 1824. Francis was a blacksmith in the
village for at least 20 years and Rebecca was buried there in 1876.

Their son, my great grandfather, Thomas Oughton TAYLOR, was baptised there on 12 March 1837.

Best wishes
Jan Glasby (nee Taylor)
