CRICKET 2006

The last Cricket match of the season
Pub Team v. West Raynham.

It has been a good season with matches virtually every Sunday through July, August and Sept for both the Pub team and the Village team.

Mixed success, but some really good games and a number of good victories for the home teams.

2006 Burnham’s Marathon and Nelson Mile

The run took place on the playing fields opposite the pub on Saturday 22nd April to raise money for Burnham Market School.

The children ran the Marathon in relays, actually covering over 32 miles in total. They just wouldn’t stop running!!

All the participants were awarded a special Marathon Medal-sponsored by The Lord Nelson

At the same, runners of all ages took part in the Nelson Mile Run including Ben and David as 118 118 runners and Di and Elspeth in a Pantomime Horse

On Sunday 23rd April we had a special St George’s Day lunch which was set off perfectly and in appropriate style by a visit from the King’s Morris Men who entertained diners and drinkers outside the Nelson.

NATIONAL GAME ON DAY
The Lord Nelson hosted a lunch to promote
National Game on Day on Friday 9th December 2005.
This was done in conjunction with the Holkham Estate, who provided the game,
and the British Association of Shooting & Conservation
Vicountess Coke presented a brace of Grey Partridge to Henry Bellingham, MP, and to Lord Nelson local, Alan Baldwin, to commemorate a similar gift made to Nelson by the Holkham Estate in 1793.
Nelson did try shooting at Holkham but, by his own admission, was a dreadful shot and was banned from joining shoots on the Estate!!

The Lunch achieved good coverage in the local press and on Radio Norfolk as well as in the specialist Shooting and Game Press.

The new sign being installed by the signwriter who painted it-Brian Ashby
based on a painting by F. Banbery (after a portrait by Lemuel Abbott).
Brian has retired from full time work and now concentrates his time on restoring the liveries
on the engines and carriages of the North Norfolk Steam Railway-which runs from Holt to Sherringham….and doing the occasional pub sign! A superb piece of work I think you will agree!!
